Q:  What are the basic requirements to become a Flight Attendant?
A:  Minimum age requirement is 18-21 (18 for some of the smaller carriers that do not serve alcohol) -there is no maximum age, however! Body shape should be proportional and height between 5'0" - 6'4". You must be able to reach the overhead bins and fit into a jumpseat. You must also be able to pass a background check, possess a high school diploma or equivalent (though a college degree is preferred), and have vision correctable to at least 20/40.

Q:  What qualities should a Flight Attendant possess?
A:  Flight Attendants are safety specialists first and also customer service agents and should possess all qualities that fall under the customer service umbrella, some of which include: Poise, Conflict Management, and Teamwork. You can learn more about these qualities in the book Sky High Careers: Your Guide to Becoming a Flight Attendant.

Q:  How much will I get paid?
A:  Airlines pay Flight Attendants in several ways. You will earn both a base salary as well as an hourly wage. You may also be paid through incentive programs and per diem. One of the things that makes this career so incredible is the control you have over making money. You can essentially work as much or as little as you want, depending on your seniority and/or the airline you choose to work for.

Q:  Do I have to have previous Flight Attendant experience in order to be hired?
A:  No. Airlines do not require previous experience as they will train you as per their standards. However, having some Flight Attendant experience or knowledge will give your application an edge over other applicants. You may be pleasantly surprised to learn that you may already have the flight attendant qualities airlines look for. Our flight attendant guide will show you how to find these hidden qualities in yourself and within your experiences and how to list them on your resume and talk about them successfully in your interview.

Q:  Why is it beneficial to have my resume professionally rebuilt?
A:  Most airlines use scanners to look for qualified resumes from the thousands of applications they receive. These scanners are programmed to find specific words and/or phrases and those resumes that lack them are never even looked at! Having your resume rebuilt to include these words and phrases will help your application get noticed and increase your chance for an interview!

Q:  How difficult is it to get hired by an airline?
A:  Most airlines hire between 1-5 percent of applicants. There is no doubt this is a competitive job! This is also why it is important for you to set yourself apart from the rest with the qualities and experience airlines look for in Flight Attendant candidates.

Q:  How can I get the Flight Attendant qualities and ensure my application gets reviewed?
          A:
Our Flight Attendant guide discusses these qualities in depth and shows you not only how to identify them in yourself and your experiences, but also how to develop these qualities and how to properly include them on your resume. You may already have most of them but need coaching on how to bring them to the forefront in your resume and interview.
Q: How do I get started?
A: The best way to get started is to begin with your resume. Once you have listed flight attendant qualities on your resume, you can study it to help you to talk easily about yourself and why/how you are already qualified for the flight attendant job.

Q:  Can you guarantee I will get a job offer?
A:  No. There is no one who can guarantee you a job offer except the person interviewing you for a job. Sky High Careers will prepare you in every way to take a successful interview. Our goal is to get you there, but it is ultimately you who has to convince the interviewer.

Q: Why can't I just put down customer service experience on my resume? Isn't that what airlines are looking for?
A: Yes, and no. While customer service is the essence of what a Flight Attendant does, after safety, the job requires much more. Airlines want to see your experience beyond your customer service skills - in particular the extent of your customer service experience as outlined by the 8 Flight Attendant qualities.

Q:  Can you guarantee me an interview?
A:  No. What we can do is help you qualify yourself for the job by doing the following: Translate your experiences by rebuilding your resume to airline specs; Teach you how to take a successful interview; And help you develop the qualities airlines look for in a Flight Attendant. Because we draw on your experiences it is ultimately you who will get you an interview.

Q:  How can I best prepare for my interview?
A:  1). Know your resume inside and out. You may consider having your resume professionally evaluated and tailored specifically for the Flight Attendant position. You need to be able to talk about your experiences from a Flight Attendant standpoint, and that means knowing the Flight Attendant qualities and recognizing them in yourself and your employment history.
